Background on J C. Sprowls, Doc.
J
C. Sprowls is a trained and certified massage therapist who has
been practicing in the Greater Pittsburgh area as a wholistic
health assistant since 1994. Sprowls's interest in natural
healing grew from his compassion and nurturing desire to be of
asssistance to his friends who were, at the time, debilitating
from the HIV virus. As his studies progressed, the seemingly most
workable and comprehensible systems available to him were
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoist philosophy. By working
and studying with various local practitioners and traveling to
distant seminars and workshops, J has extended his credentials to
include some of the methods once used by mystic sages and
medicine-men/women from centruies ago.
Sprowls has an extensive history with metaphysical subjects (tarot, astrology, I Ching, and the other subtle divine sciences) which began at an early age, leading him to journey numerous cultures and paths to seek his spiritiual awareness. While traveling in North Carolina (1991-2), Sprowls experienced his awakening. At that time, he fell even deeper "into the mystic" and was introduced to the works of St. John of the Cross, a 15th century Spanish Mystic who wrote Dark Night of the Soul. Upon becoming more deeply acquainted with the concepts contained in St. John's poetry, Sprowls experienced the "quickening" that is often referred to in today's spirtual literature. A fire was ignited...
As the fire in Sprowls's belly grew in intensity, he found himself drawing upon the experiences of his youth, when he was introduced to Nature and the healing gifts of the Earth. Ever since his youth, Sprowls saw himself as a son of the Great Earth Mother and he opened himself to her as if she were his own, Natal Mother. As time passed, their relationship grew. J's first garden was a small plot at the rear of his home which he had tilled and asked the Earth Mother to bring him plants so the he could learn to identify, keep, and use them to heal the people. She provided. This magical experience was both deeply gratifying and motivating. Sprowls saw this provision as a sign that he was chosen to become a Healer and that his instruction would come from Mother Earth and Father Sky. Then, in 1992, Sprowls sought formalized training.
In massage school, Sprowls became interested in the Shiatsu technique. This ancient Oriental system teaches how our bodies are a direct reflection of Nature and the circumstances that are inherent in the creative and destructive cycles of Nature moving. Shiastu would be the hands-on approach that Sprowls could use to assist his clients. In addition to providing the nurturing love that is communicated through touch, this method would also allow the Shaman access to disharmonies and illnesses within his clients. Foremost, however, as Sprowls's experience with his early clients has taught him, the single-most important role as a practitioner of any healing art is simply, to be, there, now.
Upon returning to Pittsburgh, later, in 1993, Sprowls met the acquaintence of Kassandra Sutton, a local practitioner of various healing arts. She shared the benefit of her experiences of working in the Earth Medicine field for over 20 years with Sprowls. In adddition, J was introduced to Native Northern American philosophies, opened to discussing herbal theories, and introduced into the Healing Community of Pittsburgh and its best practitioners. Among the local names were David Speer, CEP and Patricia Mauro RN, DOB.
Both Speer and Mauro have been building a school of wholistic techniques, bringing the benefits of their combined 50 years of experience in those fields which they have studied and worked. In this school, Speer teaches based upon his experience of travel and "forgotten" techniques like crystal healing and reflexology. Mauro, a registered nurse of 27 years, teaches from the heart, such advanced systems as OrthoBionomy and various other bodywork techniques. This school also brings guest instructors like, Christine Simmons, MAc, Acupuncturist and developer of the SMILE system of Qi Gong massage, and Gillian Paolella, LAc, practitioner of Acupuncture and Sei Tai Shiatsu, a lymphatic drain protocol. The information presented at this school is an extension to the anatomical and technical training that Sprowls had formerly attained in his pursuit of becoming a Massage Therapist.
From there, Sprowls began introductory training in Taditional Chinese Medicine and Herbology with Richard Lengyel, LAc. Lengyel teaches TCM theory and Martial Philosophy at the Community College of Allegheny County and also at his own school, Taoist Health and Martial Fitness Center. Close study with Lengyel has brought Sprowls certification in Chinese Herbal theory and Taoist Philosophy by the US Martial Congress. Sprowls is still following components to Lengyel's teachings.
Sprowls also travels to distant seminars to study components of other professional practitioners, like Master Mantak Chia, Director of the International Healing Tao Center, located in Dunmore, PA. This foundatin teaches a variety of ancient Taoist techniques for wellnes such as healing meditation and various systems of exercise, massage, and visceral massage. Sprowls's keen interest and pursuit of healing modalities is clearly an expression of his desire to be well-informed and of the utmost service to his clients. Among the modalities that Sprowls brings to every session are his developed psychic abilities, Reiki (Master Level Practitioner), and a simple and devout Love of Spirit and the Human Race.
Having achieved much happiness and fulfillment by living and working in the Greater Pittsburgh area, Sprowls is now engaging in a tour to promote awareness of these systems and services that he has provided, consistently, in his practice as an Oriental Bodywork Practitioner. Since 1996, Sprowls has expanded his scope of healing to include teaching many of his clientele how to mediate and to pull down the Universal Life Force healing energy. In essence, these techniques empower the student practititoner to perform self-healing and reconnect to the Spiritual Force that is within them--thereby achieving the Buddha/Shaman within. This abbreviated system combines techniques of Taoist yoga and mediation which, when coupled, recognize and harness the Univeral Life Force (qi) to be used for our own personal healing and transformation. Diligent practice of these and other advanced exercises have not only brought great solace, strength, and inner power to Sprowls, but also his clientele. The purpose of this tour is to demonstrate to the general public just how simple this level of awarenss is to achieve, and how impacting its presence can be in our lives.
